  • History:
Rolf Grieg was born while Nazi-Germany occupied Norway. His family moved many times, but finally they settled down in the old castle-town called Fredrikstad. Rolf Grieg became architect at NTH (Trondhjem), but after some years, he decided to dedicate his life to the art. Grieg soon startet to travel all over the world, as seen in his paintings. Grieg spent many years at Academie Muzickych Umeni (AMU) in Prague, where he studied Stage Design (Scenografi), and a lot of Grieg's art is inspired by his many trips to Japan.
Very unlike most traditional norwegian artists, Grieg's paintings are mostly in black and white, and because of his special style, some of his very best works of art are not suitable for private collections. For many years, Rolf Grieg had his own permanent gallery inside the old town (Gamlebyen), but now, the exhibitions are spread all over the world. Besides being an artist, Rolf Grieg made sceneries for several theatres ( Telemark Teater, Centralteatret (Oslo Nye Teater), Operaen i Kristiansund).
